Health examinations at the BVC

Once your child is born, contact the child health care centre (barnavårdscentral, BVC) that you have chosen for your child. The first BVC appointment normally takes place one to two weeks after the child has left the hospital. A nurse from BVC will come to your home.

When your child is between 2 and 8 weeks old, you will see the nurse at the BVC, once every week at first and then every other week depending on your needs.

When the child is between 3 and 5 months old, you normally visit the BVC once per month, or more frequently if needed.

When your child turns 6 months old, you will see both a nurse and a physician at BVC.

When your child is 8 months old, the nurse at BVC will visit you in your home. This will be an opportunity for your child to be examined in their home environment.

When your child is 10 months old, you will see the nurse at BVC. You will talk about your child and follow up on previous discussions.

When your child turns 1 year old, you will see both a nurse and a physician at BVC. Together, you vill talk about your child and follow up on previous discussions.

When your child is 18 months old, you will see the nurse. You will talk about your child’s health and development, and follow up on previous discussions.

When your child is 2.5 years old, you will see the nurse at BVC. You will talk about your child’s health and development, and follow up on previous discussions.

When your child turns 3 years old, you will see both a nurse and a physician. You will talk about the child's health and development and follow up on previous discussions.

When your child is 4 years old, you will see the nurse. Along with your child, you will talk about your child’s health and development, and follow up on previous discussions.

When your child is 5 years old, you will see the nurse at BVC. Together, you will discuss how your child is doing, how things are at pre-school, playing, and spending time together.
