When your child turns 3 years old, you will see both a nurse and a physician. You will talk about the child's health and development and follow up on previous discussions.

Welcome to your 3-year visit at BVC!
For your child:
Here is what is going to happen during your visit to the BVC once you have turned 3 years old. You will talk for a little while about how you are doing and what you like to do. What games do you like to play?
For you, the adult:
Look at this series of pictures with your child before visiting us. It is preferable that both you and your child are prepared and familiar with what is going to happen.

Waiting
Sometimes you have to wait a little while. You can play in the waiting room while waiting for your turn.

You will meet with a doctor and a nurse
For your child:
You will be seeing a nurse and a doctor. You will talk and play together.
For you, the adult:
You will see a nurse and a physician who will observe how your child has developed, their speech, and understanding.

Talking
For your child:
You will talk for a little while about how you are doing and what you like to do.
For you, the adult:
You talk about how your child is doing and any parental-related questions you might have.

Take off clothes
For your child:
Before stepping onto the scale, you will need to take off your clothes. You can keep your underwear on.
For you, the adult:
Your child will be weighed in their underwear.

Weigh and measure
For your child:
How much do you weigh? Do you see the scale in the picture? You will stand on it for a short while so that the nurse can check how much you weigh.
How tall are you? The nurse will measure you to see how tall you have become. This is done using a measuring stick like the one in the picture. You will have to stand up straight for a short while so the nurse can check how tall you are.
For you, the adult:
Your child is weighed and measured during every BVC visit to monitor their growth.

The physician examines your child
For your child:
Sometimes the nurse and the doctor want to take a closer look at you in order to see how you are feeling. The doctor might want to listen to your heart and examine your body.
For you, the adult:
Examining the body is part of the check-up. The physician adjusts the examination in accordance with the child’s needs.
