You need sleep so that your brain and body can rest. Sleep helps your body stay healthy.

Adults need to get between six and nine hours
of sleep every night.
Different people need different amounts of sleep.
You know you are getting enough
if you feel alert and energetic during the day and feel healthy.
If you get enough sleep, it helps you
avoid getting certain illnesses.
These illnesses include cardiovascular disease,
high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes,
depression and fatigue.

Tips for good sleep:

  • Get plenty of physical activity during the day.
  • Take breaks.
  • If you snore, try to lose weight.
  • Only do calming activities right before bedtime.
  • Do not drink coffee or alcohol in the evening and do
not smoke cigarettes or use snus in the evening.
  • Do not use your mobile phone, tablet, computer or TV
just before bed or if you wake up during the night.

If you need help changing your sleep habits,
you can get help from your local health care centre.
For example, there is a treatment you can do online
using a computer, tablet or mobile phone (in Swedish).
The treatment is called Sovhjälpen (Sleep help) and is
available in Swedish.
You can also get help from a counsellor or a psychologist
at your local health care centre.
