A vaccine helps the body to create protection against a disease by forming antibodies. The vaccines that are approved for pregnant women are safe for both you and the fetus. You can get vaccinated at your midwifery clinic, health center or at a vaccination clinic.
Vaccination against whooping cough is given throughout the year
For children under six months, whooping cough can be serious and can even be life-threatening. By getting vaccinated, your antibodies are transferred to the child, who then has protection against whooping cough as a newborn. It is recommended that you get vaccinated against whooping cough from week 16 of your pregnancy. The vaccination is free of charge.
Vaccination against influenza is given in the autumn
If you are pregnant, it is recommended that you get vaccinated
against influenza after week 12 of your pregnancy to protect
yourself from becoming seriously ill. The vaccination is free of
charge.
Protect your child from the RSV virus
If you give birth to your child in the late autumn or winter, you will receive an offer from your maternity hospital that your Child will receive a free injection of antibodies against the RS virus.
The antibodies protect your child from becoming seriously ill.
There is a vaccine for RSV virus that is approved to be given to pregnant women. If you want to get vaccinated against RSV virus to protect your newborn baby, you can book an appointment at a vaccination clinic and pay for the vaccination yourself.
Both options protect your child equally well against the RSV virus.
